Our Doctors

While specializing in cataract and refractive surgery, the doctors of Gulf South Eye Associates routinely see and treat patients suffering from glaucoma and retinal problems. Being closely associated with East Jefferson General Hospital, they see a variety of patients with unique eye problems that may have been admitted to the hospital for other reasons.

The doctors of Gulf South Eye Associates perform their surgery in both hospital and ambulatory settings. All refractive laser procedures are performed in a state of the art laser center using the most up to date laser and associated equipment available. All of our doctors have performed thousands of laser and surgical operations.

John W. Boyle IV MD

Dr. John W. Boyle IV, is a native of New Orleans, Dr. Boyle joined Gulf South Eye Associates in July 2008. He received his undergraduate degree from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia, and medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. After completing an internship in internal medicine there, Dr. Boyle completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis. He then completed a glaucoma fellowship in Memphis under Dr. Peter Netland, an internationally known glaucoma specialist.

Dr. Boyle is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology, Jefferson Parish Medical Society, and the Louisiana Medical Society.

Dr. Boyle focuses on comprehensive eye care including the diagnosis and treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, dry eyes, blepharitis, diabetic eye disease, and age related macular degeneration.

David P. Kennedy MD

Dr. David P. Kennedy is a native of New Orleans. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin; and he earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Kennedy completed his ophthalmology residency and fellowship in cornea and external disease at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He has published multiple peer-reviewed papers and has presented his work at regional and national meetings.

Dr. Kennedy was chosen for the Physician Leadership Program of the Eye Bank Association of America. He serves on the Southern Eye Bank board of directors as well as the accreditation committee for the Eye Bank Association of America. Dr. Kennedy is Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology, Cornea Society, the Louisiana Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, Jefferson Parish Medical Society, and the Louisiana Medical Society.

Dr. Kennedy specializes in LASIK, corneal diseases and the external tissues of the eye, as well as practices comprehensive eye care including the diagnosis and treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, dry eyes, blepharitis, diabetic eye disease, and age related macular degeneration. He has a special interest in endothelial keratoplasty, and is one of the only doctors in New Orleans who can perform Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty. In addition, Dr. Kennedy makes autologous serum tears for severe dry eye patients and performs corneal cross-linking for patients with keratoconus.

Riley C. Sibley MD

Dr. Riley C. Sibley is a native of Louisiana and enjoys the marshes, swamps, fields, and streams of his native state.

He is a Board Certified ophthalmologist. He received his undergraduate degree from Tulane University and his medical education at Louisiana State University and Charity Hospital of New Orleans. He completed a Corneal Fellowship at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City in 1970.

Dr. Sibley has been in private practice since 1973. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at LSU Medical School where he enjoys teaching the medical students. He has served many times as Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at East Jefferson General Hospital.

Dr. Sibley is the recipient of the Jefferson Parish Medical Society’s Distinguished Service Award and has been listed among the Top Doctors of New Orleans by the New Orleans Magazine.

Dr. Sibley has performed corneal transplant surgery since 1972 and has been a practitioner of refractive surgery since 1992.

Jennifer Elumelu OD

Gulf South Eye Associates is excited to introduce our new Optometrist and Contact Lens Specialist, Dr. Jennifer Elumelu. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and earned her Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. There she was recognized as a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa National Optometric Honor Society. Dr. Elumelu went on to complete her optometry residency at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans specializing in primary care and specialty contact lenses.

Dr. Elumelu is therapeutic certified and provides comprehensive eye care including spectacle and contact lens correction, diagnosis of diabetic eye disease, cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, and macular degeneration. She also has a special interest in specialty contact lenses including rigid gas permeable lenses, hybrids lenses, and scleral lenses in the treatment of keratoconus, ectasia, post graft patients, and severe dry eyes.

Tyler C. Goff MD

Gulf South Eye Associates is excited to introduce our new Ophthalmologist, Dr. Tyler C. Goff. He received his undergraduate degree from Clemson University. He went on to receive his medical degree at The University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Goff completed his ophthalmology residency at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, where he served as Chief Resident. He then pursued further specialization in the field of cornea and external disease and completed his fellowship at Eye Consultants of Atlanta under the direction and tutelage by some of the nation’s most renowned cornea specialists.

Dr. Goff has expertise in all forms of cornea transplantation, cataract surgery, refractive surgery (LASIK/PRK), keratoconus treatment, secondary IOL’s, and iris reconstruction. In addition to his specialized interests, he provides comprehensive care for cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye disease, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration.
