Dr. David P. Kennedy is a native of New Orleans. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin; and he earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Kennedy completed his ophthalmology residency and fellowship in cornea and external disease at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He has published multiple peer-reviewed papers and has presented his work at regional and national meetings.
Dr. Kennedy was chosen for the Physician Leadership Program of the Eye Bank Association of America. He serves on the Southern Eye Bank board of directors as well as the accreditation committee for the Eye Bank Association of America. Dr. Kennedy is Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology, Cornea Society, the Louisiana Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, Jefferson Parish Medical Society, and the Louisiana Medical Society.
Dr. Kennedy specializes in LASIK, corneal diseases and the external tissues of the eye, as well as practices comprehensive eye care including the diagnosis and treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, dry eyes, blepharitis, diabetic eye disease, and age related macular degeneration. He has a special interest in endothelial keratoplasty, and is one of the only doctors in New Orleans who can perform Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty. In addition, Dr. Kennedy makes autologous serum tears for severe dry eye patients and performs corneal cross-linking for patients with keratoconus.
